I am Canadian. My mother is russian and my father is Italian, Domincan, Puerto Rican. I have been in touch with my roots since I was a child. Latin dancing has always been a passion of mine. I am starting to experience the Latino culture more and express myself more everyday and learning what it means to be a strong Latina. Thanks to my parents I was raised very strictly yet in a very loving and supporting environment that has made me overcome many typical ignorant Latino stereotypes. Now I am in university getting my degree. I am Alessandra, and I am Raised by Latinos.

True to their word, Cadillac Fairview is setting out once again to redefine today’s retail experience by introducing a new creative streaming studio to CF Toronto’s Eaton Centre: Streaming at CF, as part of their Ravel initiative.
Marketed as a “dedicated storytelling space that enables content creators, celebrities, and Youtubers from a diverse set of backgrounds to come together and tell their stories with fans”, the studio will feature regular broadcast programming until October 31, with guest creators scattered throughout. Ecuadorian and Irish
I am a little lighter and look a little different than my mom’s side of the family. Even though I am part Irish, I understand Spanish and can speak it too. I watch novela’s with my grandmother (mami) and help her make empanadas, chicharron, and so many other Ecuadorian dishes! I love our traditions, our food, our music, our language. I love that I am a mixture of Ecuadorian and Irish. I love that I am being Raised by Latinos. .

Not only are there cultural characteristics from these regions that resonate directly with my Italian heritage (i.e. the importance placed on family, shared meals, the influences of Catholicism in iconography and language etc.), but there are histories of Italian migration throughout the Americas. Perhaps most importantly though, the social bodies from the Latin American and Caribbean regions appeared to be embracing pluralism; dancing between the gaps of binary oppositions historically imposed upon them by Western notions of knowledge and modernity.
